#MeToo [#EnaZeda] and feminist activism in Tunisia

Sted: KVINFO
kvinfo.dk TUNISIA #METOO
Would you like to know more about feminism, and how feminists organise and work in North Africa?
Are you curious about feminist movements such as #MeToo in Arabic speaking contexts?
Meet the Tunisian feminist organisation Aswat Nissa (women’s voices) and get introduced to #EnaZeda: Tunisia’s metoo-movement.
On Thursday March 10, KVINFO and Aswat Nissa offer an insight perspective on feminism in the Tunisian context provided by Sonia Ben Miled, communication manager in Aswat Nissa.
The organisation has since 2019 been one of the supporters of the independent Tunisian metoo-movement, #EnaZeda in Tunisian Arabic.
When a member of the Tunisian parliament in 2019 masturbated in front of a high school, a female student documented it by posting photos on social media. After the incident, Aswat Nissa contacted the student to support her, engage her defense and accompany her throughout her trial.
Further, Aswat Nissa launched a Facebook group in order to support her and lift the taboo surrounding sexual violence in the country. This sparked the metoo-debate in Tunisia, and a positive outcome was that the enazeda-movement grew significantly and kept growing, which is reflected in the fact that the Facebook group now has more than 40.000 followers!
We are looking forward to unfold the whole story and engage in questions from the audience, which will hopefully set the frame for an interesting afternoon!
