Med en bevilling på 76 millioner er udvikling af KVINFOs langvarige engagement for ligestilling i det nordlige Afrika og Mellemøsten nu sikret.
KVINFO er med i et nyt, dansk konsortium, der fra denne sommer og fem år frem skal arbejde for menneskerettigheder og inklusion af unge i MENA-regionen (Mellemøsten og Nordafrika). Konsortiet ledes af DIGNITY og tæller desuden International Media Support og Institut for Menneskerettigheder.
”Vi er meget glade og stolte og ser frem til at udvikle og udvide vores stærke partnerskaber og finde nye veje til at fremme unges inddragelse i arbejdet for demokrati, menneskerettigheder og ligestilling,” siger Lene Steffen, international chef i KVINFO.
”Vi har set fremskridt for ligestilling og demokrati i regionen, især i forbindelse med det arabiske forår. Men de globale tendenser til svækkelse af rettigheder og demokrati er tydelige i MENA-regionen, og der er voldsomt brug for det langsigtede samarbejde om at fremme ligestilling og menneskerettigheder,” siger hun.
Internationalt arbejde med køn og for ligestilling
KVINFO arbejder internationalt i Ukraine, Georgien, Libanon, Marokko, Tunesien, Egypten og Jordan.

Fokus på unge, lovgivning og rettigheder
Det nye program hedder Human Rights and Inclusion. Formålet er at fremme og styrke unge menneskers rettigheder gennem støtte til civilsamfundet, hvor unge er engagerede og kan deltage.
Samtidig støtter programmet regeringer i Mellemøsten og Nordafrika i deres arbejde med at organisere lovgivning og institutioner, sådan at de sikrer unges deltagelse i samfundslivet og fremmer ligestilling og respekt for menneskerettigheder.
Dansk-arabisk samarbejde
Programmet løber fra juli 2022 til juli 2027 og er finansieret af Udenrigsministeriets Dansk-Arabisk Partnerskabsprogram (DAPP). Den samlede bevilling til konsortiet er på 460 millioner kroner over fem år.
En række organisationer er knyttet til programmet: tunesiske Munathara, de internationale organisationer EuroMed Rights og Euro-Mediterranean Foundation of Support to Human Rights Defenders og tre danske organisationer: Danner, LGBT+ Danmark og Sex & Samfund.
Programarbejdet bliver udført i tætte partnerskaber med lokale organisationer, sådan som det også er foregået i det seneste DAPP-program.
KVINFO og de andre organisationer har allerede arbejdet i en årrække i Marokko, Tunesien, Egypten og Jordan. De lande er også med i det nye program, der også rummer muligheden for at arbejde i Algeriet.

KVINFO Joins New Initiative for Gender Equality, Rights and Youth
A new DKK 76 million grant now ensures KVINFO’s long-time engagement in North Africa and the Middle East (MENA.
KVINFO forms part of a new Danish Human Rights and Inclusion consortium, which will support human rights, youth and inclusion in the MENA region. The consortium is lead by DIGNITY and also includes International Media Support and the Danish Institute for Human Rights.
“We are proudly looking forward to develop and expand our strong partnerships and to find new ways to promote youths’ participation in democracy and for human rights and gender equality,” says Lene Steffen, International Director, KVINFO.
“We have noted important progress, not least following the Arab Spring. However, the global tendency of weakening rights and democracy is evident in the MENA region. The need for strengthening long-term efforts for democracy and gender equality is clear,” she says.
Focus on youth, legislation and rights
The Human Rights and Inclusion programme aims to promote and strengthen the rights of young people through support for independent civil society, in which young people are involved and have a say.
At the same time, the programme will support governments in the Middle East and North Africa in organising their legislation and institutions in order to ensure youth participation and respect for human rights.
Danish-Arab collaboration
The programme runs from July 2022 through June 2027 and is funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Danish-Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP). The total budget for the programme is DKK 460 million.
A number of subcontractors support the programme: Tunisian Munathara, the international organisations EuroMed Rights and Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for Support to Human Rights Defenders, and three Danish organisations: Danner, LGBT+ Danmark and Danish Family Planning Association.
The programme will be implemented in close partnerships with local organisation, which is also the case for the previous DAPP programme.
Members of the consortium have all worked for several years in Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan. These country are all part of the new programme that also opens the opportunity to work in Algria.
